Language software: Crap?

So I've got a few more months than I thought I would before I start law school. I've always wanted to learn Japanese, no not to watch anime. Anyways, I'm not willing/unable to sign up for classes in this area, as I'll only be here for a few months. Does anyone know if there is any software that is actually helpful?
