30/60: Hand against a maniac
These are the notes I've made on him in about 50 hands:
If he limp reraises it's always crap. maniac preflop. Will 4 bet any pair on the flop but won't 4 bet turn without 2 pair. Will check fold flop if he has no pair no draw so prob should check behind if I have a strong hand. Party Poker 30/60 Hold'em (10 handed) pokerhand.org hand converter Preflop: Hero is SB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG posts a blind of $30. 1 fold, UTG+2 raises, 5 folds, Hero 3-bets, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls. River: (6.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, UTG+2 checks. Final Pot: 6.50 BB Thoughts? I really wanted to lose the BB preflop, hence the 3 bet. In retrospect I think I should have bet the river. I wasn't sure of his river tendencies at the time. |

Re: 30/60: Hand against a maniac
From your notes I put him on a flush draw and check to induce a bluff.

Re: 30/60: Hand against a maniac
It's close. Betting to get called by ace high and checking to induce a bluff from a player with a wide hand range both seem reasonable to me. Against a maniac who clearly doesn't have a pair, I'd go with the check.
-Eric edit: PS. What are you doing 3-betting 44 preflop?? That's a poor decision, IMO. You seem to have excellent knowledge of this opponent, so maybe it's close, but ordinarily taking a small pocket pair out of position against a maniac is very difficult. I'd fold. |

Re: 30/60: Hand against a maniac
Obviously it depends on his tendancies, but I'd bet in the hopes of inducing a bluff raise.

Re: 30/60: Hand against a maniac
Well, villian did play correctly postflop as in he should play each street the same if he had known what hero was folding. Of course, an argument could be made for raising the flop for a free turn card, but that's pretty debatable.
