Would you raise this flop?
So, I'm still cranking out hands on the Party Beginner tables. Not doing too bad after 10k hands, but I'd hoped to do better. So, I've resolved to do the obvious thing and post more hands and reply to more posts.
Here's a situation that drives me crazy, a made hand with a crappy kicker. I feel like I either need to get a handle on these situations, or stop playing Kxs from late position. The table is so loose passive it almost a dream. Villan is not the worst, but he still plays way too many hands. VPIP is 38% after 175 hands. He will fold, but he plays a completely passive game postflop. Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is Button with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG+1 posts a blind of $0.50. UTG calls, UTG+1 (poster) checks, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (8 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (8 players) SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP3 folds, CO bets, Hero.... Do you raise? Do you call? Why? |

Re: Would you raise this flop?
I'd raise, you have top pair and can protect against 4-5 outers.

Re: Would you raise this flop?
Yep, raise it up. This is about as clear a raise-or-fold situation that I can imagine. You're not folding, so raise to protect your hand.

Re: Would you raise this flop?
You have to raise to knock some players out here.

Re: Would you raise this flop?
That makes a lot of sense. I'm definitely not folding top pair.
What about situation where the bet comes from the blinds and two or three call? I can no longer protect my hand, so do I call or raise for value? My gut says defintely call in that situation. |

Re: Would you raise this flop?
If I still have the opportunity to face around half the field with 2 cold, I'd still raise. Your hand is vulnerable, you want to get as close to hu as possible. Knocking people out for 1 small bet is better than trying to make decisions next round for 1 big bet when there are still a lot in the hand

Re: Would you raise this flop?
I would raise. The bettor was the next to last to player in turn. I don't think the chances of him having a better K are particularly high because he could be betting anthing from there. A raise might KO some weak Aces and other draws.

To those advocating a raise: what's your plan for the rest of the hand if: 1) everyone calls 2) everyone folds except the CO 3) you get check three-bet by someone other than the CO 4) you get three-bet by the CO |
