Default Gonna be in Vegas on Friday

This is gonna be my first trip out to the desert and I got to thinking the other night about if I should break up my money a little. I plan on bringing $1200 and playing mostly 3-6 and 4-8 and maybe 1 or 2 satelites for the $1500 buy in NL Series event on the 6th.

My question is, does anybody recommend bringing like 1/2 cash 1/2 travelers checks, or even all travelers checks? Or will they just make me look like a geek/fish/tourist at the table (which maybe a good thing?)? I just dont feel comfortable having $1200 in cash on me and was wondering what you all thought? I would just bring a few hundred and withdrawl any additional money I need out of an ATM, but I really dont want to have to pay the extra service charges.

What do you guys think?

If you carry 100's so you don't have a big gangster's roll you will be fine. Or if you don't feel comfortable, I say just hit the ATM twice for 600 each time...you will have like $6 in fees and peace of mind. The thing is you're still going to be walking in Vegas with lots of cash but I'm sure lots of people carry much more. I think you can cash traveler's checks at the cage in Vegas but not sure (I'm going my first time this summer).

Default Any Casino cage will cash your travellers checks ....

Carry what you cash you are comfortable with. If you can get low cost travellers checks, and that will make you more comfortable, you can cash them at any casino main cage. I cannot say whether a poker cashier will accept them directly, but I doubt it. They likely will refer you to the main cage, so stop there first and save some time.

For $3-6, I recommend the Mirage. For $4-8, I recommend the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay, in that order.

Binions is worth a visit to try a satellite, but the games are not very much fun otherwise, in my opinion.

(... and, no matter what she tells you, there is NO sex in the Champagne Room.)

In the past, I've written personal (out of state) checks for cash at several casino cages. The amount you can get this way varies from casino to casino. I'm not sure what factors they consider in deciding how much you can cash a check for. I don't recall there being any kind of fee.

with telecheck it's just as secure for them as taking a debit card. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. I'd recommend NOT using a typical back pocket wallet and just get one of those money clip type wallets - enough to put a couple credit cards in, your driver's license and a wad of cash. I carried $2k in $100's around the last time I was there at all times. I never worried about it with it in my front pocket.

When I go to Vegas I usually bring between 3000 and 4000 in cash. Never had any problem. Most of the hotels have in room safes and I think they all have safety deposit boxes if you ask at the desk.

I've had up to $10k in my pocket on a couple of occasions, and never had an issue. I've known people who carried even more than that, with no issues.

I've had about $10k in my pocket on a couple of occassions as well. I've also had about 25 Ketel/sodas or Glenlivets neat on those occassions. I've also never had an issue, well, besides deciding that $500-1000/hand blackjack is the right thing to do. And craps.

One of my funniest Vegas memories is discussing the weekend's plans with my host in my room the afternoon following one such session. The bed and floor were strewn with 100s. I'm sitting on the bed talking to him and in the middle of a sentence pass out and fall back, lying down on the bed. I pass out cold for about a minute, wake up, and continue the conversation. A friend of mine was in the room and witnessed the whole episode....

As for your situation, if you don't feel comfortable carrying that much cash on you, just bring a couple of hundred and bring the rest in traveler's checks. You don't want to be walking around Vegas worrying about how much money is in your pocket. You don't want to worry about anything in Vegas. Traveler's checks are just as good as cash. Just take them to any cashier cage and exchange them for cash when you need it.

The funny thing for me is that it feels completely normal to be walking around in Vegas, completely smashed, with many thousands of dollars in my pocket. But then I feel very self-conscious from the time I get to the airport to the time I get back home!

One piece of advice. After a big night of successful gambling and drinking, it is often prudent to stop by the room to drop off some cash if you or your friends are the type of people who might find yourselves at a gentlemen's club. 'Nuff said.
