Default NL Postseason Awards

If Carpenter and Pujols don't win the Cy and MVP, respectively, something is seriously wrong. Pujols not only should win over Jones, it should be unanimous. ESPN's hyping of Jones is nauseating, especially if one has followed both teams and is familiar with each squad's injury situation. While both have arguably carried their teams, Albert's #'s are far and away superior.

As for the Cy, Rocket has a nice ERA, but is the inferior pitcher in any other measurable way (slight edge in WHIP), and his ERA is simply not *that* much lower than Carpenter that it overcomes everything else (9 fewer wins, 2 more losses, 1CG vs 7CG, 0 SO's vs 4, 1 full less IP/start, fewer SO's, more walks)

Yes, Baseball Tonight had a huge segment basically suggesting that Jones had almost locked up the MVP, which I found both confounding and exasperating, along with all the discussion that Rocket is somehow a Cy Lock at 11-6.

yeah, clemens' and carpenters' era are so close you might even confuse them.

2.28

wow.... I thought maybe you were talking about some Jones I hadn't heard about. What about Cabrera or Lee(s)? Or [censored], I dunno, someone else? Let me guess, Kruk likes him because he has some many dingers.

That's not remotely enough difference to overcome everything else. If it was 1.57 vs 3.08, that'd be one thing, but 2.28 is plenty close, especially when he's getting rolled in other categories.

Pujols is a better candidate than Jones, but running neck and neck with Lee.

I think Clemens is clearly having the better year, although Carpenter is tearing it up. If the Lamestros make the playoffs Clemens will most likely get it, and GoT will make his annual bandwaggon appearance.

oh yeah, and the idea that you can measure a pitchers performance over the course of a season in something other than ERA doesnt make much sense. that is how many runs per inning they allowed. that is how well they did. if two pitchers have a 3.00 era, and one has more strikeouts or a lower whip, is he better?

IP/ start is also an important stat, that one counts for something too.

Rocket's record > Carpenter's record
if Rocket played for the StL
