Default What if someone calls every time

I got into a bit of an argument at the local casino in a NL table with a fellow player.

There was this situation when another player, not so seriously, said that he would call every time this other guy would bet. That lead into a conversation about how to extract the most dough out of such opponent in infinite number of hands.

His theory was simply to go all-in preflop with every hand that is more than or equal to 50% favorite against a random hand and that's it, wouldn't accept any other answer.

My theory was to limp in with every hand, check to the river and go all-in if you think your hand might be good or just check if the board beats your hand or there's a four flush on the table but you don't hold a card of that suit and so on. I figured I would win the most by minimizing losses.

Any thoughts? What's the math?

The only hands he can be sure of being over 50% everytime is big pairs no? Even 22 is a fav over AK.

I think you should stay at the game you're at. If you make me change my mind I'll send you my entire savings.

The obvious answer would be the second one since you would only play him back when you made a hand, however that is after the fact. Your quesiton is what to do preflop.

How do you limp in if all he's doing is raising all-in or folding?

this is way wrong. I think the median hand heads up is like J4s or something (a lot of people think its Q7o, i think that hand is the 50% mark for a full ring game but i am not 100% sure)

any hand better than whatever that median hand (better meaning higher EV against a random hand)is going to be a favorite.

i guess that doesn't really explain it that well.

the thing is, you have incomplete information. you know the villians hand is random. you also know he will call evertime. so if you put in your money with A7o and he calls with AA does that mean you made a mistake? no, as long as he was really calling with every single hand dealt to him then that push had a postive expectation. it just so happens you got unlucky.

to put it another way. him flipping over AA and winning the hand is no different than you pushing KK and having him call with 92o and having the board come 99976. he made quads and won the hand, does that mean you made the mistake? again, no because your hand was MOST likely to be the favorite by the river given the information available to you preflop.
