I don't know how this game plays really, so what is your plan if you check and it gets bet and raised in front of you?

Not a good reason to bet, but worth thinking about.

I played this hand last night and it has been bugging me. Ther are ZERO draws out there, so the only people calling the flop are (a) those with K's (b) those with 4's (c) those with maybe pairs like 22,33,55-77, and (d) retards. Betting and getting raised sure would suck. Don't I want to get to showdown here?

there were no raise's preflop so i cant see too much to be scarde off.
look at it from the other player's i dont think that king hits any .the 4 well its just unlucky so i think for one bet it is very possiable that it missed them all
i think you are ahead here
but i have been wrong once or twice

There are a lot of retards out there. You might be underestimating the number of people who will peel a paired board with any two. I bet and call down.

I think you are right about the "peel with any two", but are they calling the turn? Am I really running that much of a risk if I give them a free one here? Plus a raise puts me in an ugly spot.

depends on the players at the table
if someone as a k your kicker is better i think
if they think you will lay it down because of the (4 4 ) its a easy bet for them
i would think a rasie would come here a large % anyway

Although I usually bet because I think anyone that has me outkicked probably would have raised preflop, but checking doesn't look so bad to me. Sometimes it will get bet and raised then you can fold. You are right that getting raised is uncomfortable, but that doesn't make betting incorrect. I think it is a valid question.
