Default thin value bet?

Yes, probably should have raised PF.

This hand brings up an interesting question. This situation happens sometimes where Hero can beat nothing and can only lose or tie so I probably should have c/c'd right? I certainly have to call a raise against this unknown. I bet out of blind frustration and the outside chance that my villain had the ability to make a "Big" laydown or read the board wrong.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
3 folds, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, Button calls.

Turn: (2.50 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Button calls.

River: (4.50 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Button folds.

Final Pot: 5.50 BB

P.S. I was originally just gonna post this as a dumb (LC) laugher but then it got me to thinking. Thoughts?

I agree that you should raise preflop.

I think he will have a flush/bigger straight a lot more often than he will fold a chopping hand so I don't like the river bet.

People are folding ~0% of the time here.

How about a check/fold? Odds will not be good if he bets.

I think the vast majority of PP players will bet that board with any two cards if checked to.

I haven't found this to be true at all. Especially not at 5/10. Especially not for a player who hasn't bet or raised once the whole hand.

Check-call. Overcards might have a bluff.

I've been debating this myself recently. It's been a long time since someone actually had the higher straight when there was one on the board against me, but in a pot this small, against some players, yeah I guess you can fold on the river. For the most part though, I don't think you can. I mean, it's pretty much a freeroll for the guy last to act. You checking means you don't have the higher straight 100% of the time, so if you fold 1% of the time he's making a profit. He knows he's splitting at the worst. So I just never feel safe folding.

Yeah, I wouldn't make it standard by any means, but in this case we have two extenuating factors. 1.) The player has been super passive thus far in the hand. Obviously this isn't conclusive but it makes it much less likely than usual that he's a laggy bluffing type. 2.) A flush got there. So if he bets, it isn't just "higher straight vs. bluff", there are now a whole bunch of flush combinations he could have. It should also scare him out of bluffing a bit more.

Oops, didn't notice the flush. In this hand yes I could fold to a river bet.

The very first post mentions the flush and I still didn't pick up on it. Nice.
