Party O8 SnGs

So I played my first O8 SnG tonight ($11+1, came in 2nd), but it felt to me like the structure simply was not good for the game.

At least at the point where I am now (still very new to the game), hand selection really is paramount but the Party structure is so quick I can't wait on good hands.

Basically, I'm wondering whether or not you guys play these and if there is value in them?

Also, same question for Party MTT.

I have played in 3 of them. Came in first once, and missed the money twice.

It turns into a crapshoot really quickly. One or two unlucky hands, and you are suddenly on the ropes after the first two levels.

I think they are very beatable. I started my online career playing 10+1 0/8 limit. I was able to build a roll with them. The problem with them is that they are very slow.
What I found is that the 1st part of the game means nothing, so don't be blowing your stack on anything but the nuts. Late in the game don't call anybets with marginal holdings and let everybody else make mistakes.
This seems like very simplistic advice but I believe they are more easily beatable then the Holdem sng's.

I agree. At the 10+1 level you can just play top 10 hands for the first 4 rounds and find yourself with a decent stack and 5-6 players left. The play is so absurdly horrible, waiting for others to f up is very +ev.

Pathetically long though... I had an LO8 STT last week that was 10 minutes shy of 2 hours.

Just fold your way to level iv or so and then start pushing big pairs, stealing blinds and taking coin flips. They are definitely beatable.

But the NLHE ones are faster and you'll have a higher hourly rate.

Funny you should mention this - I played in my 1st LO8 SnG last night AND IT TOOK 2 HOURS!! Came in 1st and when I saw I was the ONLY guy not in the 1st hand I figured I would just bide my time and let the chaff bust out.

I find these are very profitable. Many of the people that play these play ridiculously bad, which more than makes up for the structure.
After trying these out a month or so ago I've been mostly playing these and can't understand why anyone would play hold'em anymore at this level [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

O8 sngs take alot longer. ROI may be much higher, but when you take turnover into accounts it's probally not that different $/hr/table. Then you take into account that you can 8table NLHE sngs.

I say this for ALL kinds of poker.... play your cash games at Partypoker, play your tournaments at Pokerstars.
