Default New to LIVE MTTs, Need critique on this hand play

I played my 4th Live MTT yesterday. I busted out 29th out of 77 players. Top 8 places paid. Here's the hand:

It's a "short-handed" tourney. Tables are left with 6 players.
Blinds are 200-400 antes are 50.
I have about 4000 chips left.
There are 7 people at my table.
I'm on the button. Everyone folds.
I have A 9.
I raise to 1000. small blind folds.
Big blind goes All In. It'll cost me 2000 more chips to call.
Table has been fairly tight. Villain has been stealing blinds but has been playing reasonably sane.

I call.
Villain turns over JJ. I'm down to 1k in chips bust out next hand with 55 against Q T.

This is my feeling on the hand:
The preflop steal attempt was fine. I should NOT have called once villain went all in.

Any criticisms/critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think raising to 1000 instead of pushing was a mistake.. but once you did that you had to call him.

Tough break.
