Default Internet gambling banned article

Just read an article on pokerpages about a ban on internet gambling. It said stuff like if caught internet poker players could face the death penalty, vote on ban 237-198, Bush going to sign bill next week.
Is any of this true or is it supossed to be some kind of joke?

Check out bills HR21 and S627 at house.gov or senate.gov (or congress.gov or thomas.loc.gov).

Write/call your representatives to vote against the "Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Acts"!

Thanks,

NK

Just a very poor attempt at humor that will most certainly keep some people from playing.

i absolutely agree. i saw this posted on RGP a week ago, and was hoping it never got cross posted.

don't get me wrong, everyone knows Granny has a great sense of humor. my problem with this satire is that there is ZERO indication that it is a satire, other than common sense.

well, i trust my own common sense, but we all know that there are people out there that just don't get it sometimes.

here is the biggest irony:
the group that is not smart enough to "get it" are the EXACT people i want sitting at my table. calling it irresponsible journalism is validating that it is journalism to begin with, and i don't agree.

what i do agree with is that it may cost us players. that's bad, no matter how many laughs we get from it, that's bad.

I've often thought that all US international airports should have a large sign in the baggage claim area:

"Welcome to the United States of America. You are now entering an irony free zone."

Needless to say, I found the article an amusing little piece of satire, but I was surprised to see it on an American site...

Death penalty for poker....I thought that was indication enough that it was satire?

Default Headline: Civilization Experiment Abject Failure

Please. How much stupidity and idiocy can one species produce?

So, then. What I witness in this thread is that the people we want at our poker tables are too ignorant to see that this is a satirical piece, and that the writer is too stupid to recognize this fact.

Therefore, everyone is too stupid to be permitted continued existence, and ultimately, the world would be better off if we, as a struggling, infantile species, would just throw in the proverbial evolutionary towel, and allow the cockroaches and scorpions to have their turn now, as opposed to waiting for the whole thing to play our naturally.

Please note: I have utilized hyperbole in this post.

Of course you are right - for an informed person. But that was way into the article. The headline was:

Congress Votes to Ban Internet Gambling: President Bush Expected to Sign Bill into Law

Many people do not get farther than that. Even on this forum there was a legitimate question raised.

It was irresponsible reporting AND hurt poker.
