Simple Pot Odds
It's heads up on the flop and Player A bets 10,000 into a 20,000 pot representing at least a pair. Player B is on the flush draw. The pot is 30,000 and it's 10,000 to call. Is Player B getting 3 to 1 to make the call or is he getting 4 to 1?

Re: Simple Pot Odds
Why would it be 4:1, there is 30K in the pot with 10K to call, thus 30,000:10,000 = 3:1. You don't count your bet until it's in the pot.
The odds of making the flush on the next card are about 4:1, however. If you're not going to stick around to the river, then use that as a comparison for your pot odds and fold. This assumes you'll get no action from the pair if the board flushes up. Regards, T |

Re: Simple Pot Odds
Phil Gordon was trying to explain why calls are made due to the pot odds and I swear that he said that the guy had a 25% chance of making his flush and that he was getting the proper pot odds because the pot would be 40,000 when he called, in relation to the 10,000. I knew it was wrong, but you usually don't hear the pros make mistakes like that.

Re: Simple Pot Odds
Ah, I see. I'm guessing Phil G left the part out where he talks about the hand going all the way to the river (in which case the odds are about 2:1 to make the flush). He does not have the odds to call for just the next card.
