5/10 6-max, turned 2 pair on scary board
No reads on this hand, except that he is a bit of a calling station. What should my turn action be?
Dealt to Hero [ As Qh ] X folds. Villian raises [$20]. Hero raises [$30]. Y folds. Z folds. Villian raises [$20]. Hero calls [$10]. ** Dealing Flop ** [ Kd, Ah, 4c ] Villian checks. Hero bets [$10]. Villian calls [$10]. ** Dealing Turn ** [ Qc ] Villian bets [$20]. Given that, how should I play the river? All comments appreciated. |

Did you raise the turn? I'd raise and call down if he 3bets. KQ is definitely possible, as is AQ. JT seems unlikely for a calling station. QQ-AA would have capped.

Is the reason for the turn call to prevent getting 3bet by AK or a set?

Re: 5/10 6-max, turned 2 pair on scary board
That turn card most likely hurt you - it didn't help.
Is this 5-handed? Where did his initial raise come from? A read on his pre-flop game would be immensely helpful; without one, it looks like a somewhat passive-ish player raised in MP or CO and then capped your 3-bet. If we think a reasonable capping range is something like TT+, AK, then you're really screwed because I don't think passive guy bets his TT or JJ on an AKQx board. The Q just improved the one hand that you were ahead of that seems most reasonable for him to have. If his pre-flop capping range is considerably wider, then you're not so screwed. In any event, goofy bad players (if that is what he is) don't tend to cap pre-flop, c/c flop, and lead the turn unless (1) they are "slowplaying" the monster, or (2) the turn improved their hand, or (3) they picked up some silly draw. You're getting 3.5 to 1 to call down. Decide whether you think you're good / chopping often enough to do so. In any event there is almost no way I'd raise this turn without a better read on his range pre-flop and his post-flop tendencies. |

explanation please. [/ QUOTE ] I guses KQ makes some sense but the other hands are either ahead of us or are behind and we'd like to keep them in. I think JJ/TT might be making a desperation bet ehre. if those hands just fold the river, then there's a strong case for raising to get those out. more often though you're against a weirdplayed big hand (possibly because he doesn't want to give a free card) or QQ |
