Default Why are girls not funny?

When asked who can consistently make me laugh, I don't think I can include a single girl on the list. There is an endless list of guys whether they be comedians, actors, or just friends of mine. Examples Will Farrell, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Peter Griffin... Even as noted in the most funny Simpsons characters thread, the answers did not contain any females and they topped most lists in least funny characters.

I don't understand why, but for some reason girls just are not (intentionally) funny. I don't remember which show this was from, but this sums up female comedy quite well

A female comedian is on stage

"So, I had my period today" (short pause, then audience laughs)

Agree/Disagree? Can you name some funny females?

Chicks are too serious. That's why I am considering turning gay.

Disagree.

My fiancee is hilarious. If only she knew.

I agree, women stand-up isn't even close to guys, one girl I like though is Sarah Silverman.

Disagree. Examples include friends of mine who are f'ing hilarious, and then of course real comedians like Sarah Silverman, Rita Rudner, Andy Dick...

They're too emotional and sensitive to every [censored] thing to be able to see the humor in anything.

Most female comedians have acts that are directed at a female audience ("So I had my period today" was Janneane Garrofolo (sp?) on the Simpsons, btw). Mostly they talk about how lazy and stupid men are.

True, lots of male comedians have acts that are directed mostly at a male audience. However, I think that there are many more male comedians whose acts are equally funny to both sexes. I can't think of too many female comedians that men would find as equally funny as women do.

It's much harder for ugly/old/fat females to be successful than their male counterparts, even if they are hilarious, so you don't see them on TV as much.

Gilda Radner, Tina Fey, Wanda Sykes, Rachel Dratch, Jane Curtin, Joan Rivers (her stand-up when she was a stand up was top notch) just to name a few off the very top of my head. I'm sure there are about a million more, too.

It's actually an old attitude in comedy that women aren't funny. John Belushi was generally hated on the set of SNL by the women for this very reason, he constantly told them how women just aren't funny. His wife said that a few years after, he was watching some old shows and said about Gilda, "Wow, she really was funny, wasn't she?" and his wife answered, "Yeah, John, everyone noticed but you."

The only general, broad-sweeping statement I think is true is to say that general, broad-sweeping statements are never true.

So, do you consider Peter Griffin a comedian, an actor, or a friend of yours?
