Default 2 live hands

I just started playing poker again after about a year. These are 2 hands from a 6/12 live session, loose passive table.

I get Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the hijack and limp after 2 limpers. Button limps and BB checks. Flop is J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Checked to me and I bet. Only one MP (new to the game, is playing very randomly) and the button (any 2 preflop, can fold postflop) call. Turn is another low blank, I bet, they both call. River is another low blank, checked to me and I bet. ?

Later, 7 handed I get K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG and limp. UTG+1 (any 2 from above) calls, MP (new to the game but seems decent) calls and BB comes along. Flop is A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I bet, UTG+1 calls, MP raises, BB folds, we both call. Turn is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], checked to MP who bets, I fold. ?

first hand is pretty good.

Second one is ugly... fold preflop. But since you called.... I guess bet/fold isnt too bad.

Hi Dave,

Hand 1: You played fine. Check and call a bet on the river. Headsup and you should almost always bet. Hope they missed their draws.

Hand 2: The majority of the time I would muck preflop UTG, even seven-handed. You will run into these situations and out of position more often than not. Trust me, save thousands of dollars now without bothering with the whole experience it for yourself thing. Being that you played it, nothing wrong with a fold after your bet.

Where was this session?

Thanks for the replies...

In the first hand after I bet the button folded and MP called. He had J7o or some crap for one pair and I mucked. Of course there was the standard "lemme see those cards" from 3 people not even in the hand.

In the second hand, well, we both folded.

Hand 1: Check/call the river. Even a weak J isn't folding for one more bet, missed draws aren't calling, and it would suck to get raised (by, say, some wonky two pair).

Hand 2: Other posters are recommending bet/fold, but i can't figure out if they mean on the flop or on the turn (because OP called the flop). My thought was to bet/fold the turn, just in case villain is on a flush draw. Is this spewing (esp. since the pot is only 5BB on the turn)?

In hand #1, I would bet if I had 1 opponent, but check against 2 opponents. It's not that clear, though, and Im sure many will recommend that you value bet the river, which Im okay with. Reads help, since the answer is pretty close here.

In hand #2, fold preflop.

The reason why I asked which casino is that if you're at the Bike, generally speaking, there are more loose-passive players there and will play a weak-jack and never raise you. If so, definitely check with two opponents. The button will be happy to give himself (and you!) a free showdown because he's afraid he's outkicked.

Ah sorry, didn't see your question.. this was at HP. And during the hand I was playing it as if it were heads up, which is why I bet. MP was so random that I basically discounted him even being there. Bad idea I guess, checking would have saved a bet.

I felt like folding in hand 2 was weak, and if it were heads up I wouldn't have. I also didn't want to spend 2 more bets in a small pot. Just a bad situation out of position, which is why everyone is saying fold this PF, eh? (:
