Default 6/12 at Hollywood Park - Top Set

Pretty good 6/12 game at HP, I've got my stack up to about $500 (not that that matters). Loose raiser opens under the gun, and it's folded to me on the button. I three bet with Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], the big blind calls, original raiser caps and of course we both call. 6 big bets going to the flop.

The flop comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] . Big blind checks, UTG bets, I raise, big blind calls, UTG 3-bets. What's my move here?

FTR, I (results in white) capped the flop, they check/called on the turn and river, and I won a huge pot to Kings and a missed draw. My question is, is my flop cap correct, or am I better to just call and try to get the extra bet on the turn?

I'd call the flop 3bet and raise the turn.

Also, remove the action after the decision that you're asking about so it doesn't skew the responses.

Yes. Also, there's no such thing as a *bad* game at the HP 6/12. What a fish pond. Of course, I've lost all 3 sessions I've played there... It's too depressing a cardroom to go to regularly.

HP certainly isn't the nicest casino, but if you live on the Westside it's the closest. I'd prefer to play at Commerce, but I'd prefer more not to have to drive 30 minutes every time to face better players.

Hustler isn't too much further, and it's soooo much nicer. The 6/12 game there is easily beatable.

Because you have position, you can safely just call and plan to raise the turn without risking a check-down.

If you were OOP on the LAG, I'd cap and lead out on the turn. Position makes all the difference and I played a similar hand to this that exact way yesterday (call on the flop, raise my set on the turn).

Looks like pretty much everyone says call/raise the turn, which is what I figured when thinking about the hand later. One thing, though: should I be afraid of losing the very loose/weak big blind by making him call two bets cold on the turn? He'll most likely call anyway, but if he folds I'm losing three big bets (the two flop small bets plus one big bet each on the turn and river) to make one extra big bet on the turn.

No. If the big blind had a strong draw as you suggest, he is getting odds to call even 2 big bets on the turn. So you are actually rooting for him to fold.

But even if he calls, you have a lot more pot equity than he does and you profit.

Call and raise the turn. Put a $2 exacta box on 1,3,7, and 8.
