Default Take it down or go for more?

Hypothetical hand, but I've seen lots very similar.

Hero is dealt A9o one off the button. Table folds around to Hero, who raises. Button and SB fold, BB calls. (Assume BB is fairly vanilla, 25% VP$, 7%PFR, 1.00 aggression)

Flop is rainbow and uncoordinated - T74 or somesuch.
BB checks.

Do you (Hero) bet now and likely take down just a 4.5 SB pot, or wait for the turn and take a risk you can collect more?

Huh? You only have a-high correct? Are you suggesting this is strong enough to slowplay?

I wouldn't call it a slowplay, no.

I've been betting flops like this almost automatically. But it seems to me Hero's still got a very good chance of having the best hand, and a bet will very often scare BB away ... whereas waiting till the turn means you extract bigger bets from BB if he calls, along with the risk that BB improves.

I'm wondering whether anybody likes the idea of waiting and risking.

There are really only 2 outs to which you can extract more money and still be ahead, and that's only sometimes. (The As when he has one with a lower, unpaired kicker.)

Extract? You have very little. Bet and see what happens. For me, this is incredibly far from a wait and extract moment.

If he wouldn't call you on the flop with Kx or whatever, what makes you think he would call the turn?

What do you do if he bets the turn?

Checking a hand so that you can collect more/bigger bets on the next street is the exact definition of a slowplay.

No offense, but I'm guessing you don't want to call it a slowplay because the play looks downright silly when you consider it that way.

Well, it was a thought experiment and it looks like I've got my answer.

Another entry in the Dumb Ideas file.
