Default pocket tens against a Tag

30/60 game on Party - 8 handed.

Unknown raises UTG, 2 folds, slightly loose TAG (23/9/1.9) cold-calls, two folds, I call with TT in the sb (should I raise?), BB calls.

Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I check, UTG checks, TAG bets, I raise, UTG folds, TAG 3-bets, I call.

Turn: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I donk, TAG calls.

River: J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check planning on calling.

Is this bad?

I like 3-betting PF with the meat in the middle. If it was heads-up I like calling.

With the flush and straight draw on the board I think you have to call the 3-bet on the flop. I like the donk pet on the turn.

I would have bet the river but I like your line better because I don't tempt myself with a shitty calling situation if I'm raised.

A 3-bet PF will help define your hand against a totally unknown raising range. The bad news is you have to play OOP with a hand that is uncomfortable against a wide range of flops.

Unless TAG has a J, the river is a very scary card. I think we have some fold equity, so i like betting the river. Is TAG capable of folding an overpair here?

Otherwise, a busted draw isn't calling us, and better hands are raising (unless TAG is afraid of the backdoor flush, which seems unlikely), so check/call is probably a more prudent line.

(And obviously i'm a newb who doesn't play anywhere near 30/60. I'm just practicing.)

Put this in the mid - high stakes forum. We all suck down here in small stakes.

ok at first I was thinking I like a river bet, but now I think most of the hands that you ahve beat will bet. hearts might make a desperation bluff, and 99 has a hard time checking behind there. also if he has AJs or something, you get raised and I don't think you can lay it down.

and I don't get the preflop call at all. you really ought to be trying to keep it 3 ways

So what does the donkbet achieve?

If I'm ahead it protects my hand. If I'm not, I think the 7 is a good card for me to bet. I pick up outs with that card and my opponent is less likely to raise me since that completed a straight draw.

I think there is decent chance that I am ahead.

That is my reasoning anyway.

I think I like it except from pf. The reasoning for the donk seems pretty solid to me.

Aside from knocking out the BB, another advantage to the 3-bet could be seeing how much UTG likes his hand?

I like the rest.

Max,

This has become one of my favorite lines in the "pocket-pair-heads-up-against-one-overcard-OOP" kind of situation... You're reasoning for it is solid.

I'd reraise pre-flop.
