Default The worst bet I\'ve ever witnessed

Home game, $5 dealer ante (which gets raked, btw, so there's $0 in the pot to begin with), no blinds. Stacks range from %500-2000. Mostly limit, sometimes PL.

Hand: 5 Card Omaha 8

I'm dealt garbage in BB position, however it gets checked around. 8 players. Pot size: $0

Flop: KKK. I have the case King. Of course I check, and it gets checked around. Players:8, Pot: $0

Turn: 5. Again I check, it gets checked around. Players:8, Pot: $0

River: J. Once more, I check. Gets checked to Cut-off who amazingly bets $20 (in PL, we play you can bet up to $20 on first bet). Folded to me. I decide to raise $25. He calls.

My hand is good.

I don't what was worse: the $20 bluff into a $0 pot or calling my raise?

God, I love home games.

PS. In case you were wondering, this game is played at a restaurant and the $5 rake goes toward food/beverages/tip. Usually works out to about $50-70 player for $5 hours. We do eat well, however.

Manku - thanks for the laugh - here is my contender for the worst bet ever. A friend and I are watching an ESPN show on the Knicks setting the record for the most games won in a row. The last game, the Knicks are down lots of points with about a minute to go and my friend says "no way can they win" I point out this is a replay but he insists that they can't win and insists on betting me $10 that the Knicks lose the game. This is a replay so I refuse, but he insists, so I say OK I bought the pizza and beer that night with his $10

the bet is bad, but why did you keep checking?

betting a small bet on the flop here was clearly your best play.

Default one more thing

isnt it possible river bettor had AAxxx and thought his hand might be best and he'd get a call from a worse hand??

true there are only 7 undealt cards at that point, but im not sure it's as wretched a bet as you are claiming. it's basically a proposition bet saying, "i think my hand is best, anyone care to challenge me?" it wasnt like he was bluffing into a $0 pot.

What I don't understand is how you play a whole poker game with no ante money in the pot.

You have not seen a pot like this for a while. At the Seminole casino in SW Florida ther is a 7c stud game 25-50Cent blinds and no pot can exceed $10. the rake is 25ccents per player and $1 is take off for the jackpot in many hands the pot is under $1. Five hands in I pull off 4 treys on 3rd,4th,5th,6st. Some granny bets into me,I laughed gave her my $10 buy-in and left.Saddest game in the US of A and some of the saddest players. Hobart

Somehow, the lack of ante doesn't seem to affect the action. One might say the same thing about PL poker, where the blinds are 5-10. If people have stacks of over $1000, that $15 isn't going to change the way people play, at least in my experience.

As an example, in this game sometimes the rake is too much. ie. we rake $500, but the bar tab is only $300. We then put the remaining $200 in the last 8 pots - $25 each. The game is played identically - no one's trying to steal that $25 or calling due to the extra $25. BTW, most of our games are limit.

As for me, a tight player, this small ante is a dream.

You're not saying that the rake and jackpot drop for a full table is equal to 40% of a full pot? How could you ever find eight people in the whole world to sit down at such a table?
