88 Folding to a river raise
A note on the turn. He was being a robot and betting when checked to on the turn (but not on the river). I wanted a bet to go in on the turn, but thought he would bet way more hands than he would call with and I also don't have to face a raise from someone holding something like KJ who decides I'm full of it.
Hero has 88 UTG or MP (I forgot) Hero raises, Button 3-bets, blinds fold, Hero calls. Flop comes QT3 rainbow I bet, he calls Turn comes 2 completing the rainbow Check, bet, call River comes Q Bet, raise, fold |

Re: 88 Folding to a river raise
I just check and fold the flop here. This flop sucks for us. Either he has a made hand and we're drawing to two outs or he has two broadways that whiffed that have a minimum of 10 outs. A small percentage of the time he has an underpair to our 8s but I don't want to pay 2.5 BB or more to find out.
As far as the c/c on the turn. I'd rather bet if you think he'll bet with more than he'll call with because we want him to fold the turn. |

Re: 88 Folding to a river raise
There isn't much reason to take thie past the flop, and there is much less reason to bet this river, there the only hands you beat are AK and AJ, which will call often, and you can showdown for the same price by c/c. A better hand NEVER folds here, which makes this line bad.

Re: 88 Folding to a river raise
Just in general, I don't think a river bet with a weakish hand has to be able to make better hands fold in order be +EV, as long as villain won't raise with worse hands. Because of the preponderance of LP players, you'll get a call from a lot of worse hands that would have checked behind, and not that many folds from hands that would have bet.
In fact, probably the only way you get better hands to fold is if your hand is worse than A-high. |

[/ QUOTE ] If I bet: Hands that have me beat are raising me on the turn. Hands that I beat (at the time) are calling my bet. Hands that will bluff are probably not calling. If I check: Hands that have me beat are betting. Hands that I bet are betting. Hands that are bluffing are betting. Doesn't this make c/c the turn correct? |

Re: 88 Folding to a river raise
Hands that bet the turn either A) are crushing you or B)have plenty of equity.
Better to have him fold his AJ rather than bet it. But even better for you just to fold the flop. |
