Check/Call, Check/Call, Bet...?
I understand where many of you are coming from when you recommend this line in certain situations; however, what about when you are heads-up versus a likely run-of-the-mill blind defender with a 3-bettable hand pre-flop?
Villain is a 16.5/8.75/3 after 100+ hands. Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 7 folds, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls. Flop: (6 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, BB bets, Hero calls. This flop isn't too bad... not too bad at all. Why not go into check-call mode and extract the most when I'm ahead and the least when I'm behind? Turn: (4 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, BB bets, Hero calls. River: (6 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, BB raises, Hero...??? crap |

Re: Check/Call, Check/Call, Bet...?
I think this line works okay. Re-steal hand range is typically something like middle->high pairs, Aces, and a few big broadways like KQ. Given the range we appear to be wa/wb.
With his AF of 3.0, I would call the river for one more bet. He could easily see you as having hit the K and raise your "donk-bet" with weaker aces. |

Re: Check/Call, Check/Call, Bet...?
This is an interesting hand to compare to Fooz's AQ thread earlier. The key difference is that you are playing against a "power-play" flop re-raise, and hence you can expect villain has a much wider range than Fooz could in his hand.
For that reason, I want to get some value here. The problem with springing too early is that you might discourage the taggy villain from bluffing or betting a worse hand like 88. If you think he'll play back at you with a worse hand, a flop check-raise or similar might be better than your line, because it'll get a bit more money in. Once you get to the river you need to call. |

Re: Check/Call, Check/Call, Bet...?
I think it would depend on what villian would 3-bet with. But had it been a short handed game I would have capped PF lead the flop if raised cc the whole rest of the way.

Call, never fold if one bet back to you unless you know for sure you are beat. I am definately calling here.

[ QUOTE ]
anybody else feel the need to cap it pf and lead? [/ QUOTE ] I don't necessarily "feel the need to," but I think it's a totally viable play. Honestly, this is a hand that I could face three times in three days against the same opponent and I'd play it three completely different ways. I think there is a ton of room to maneuver here, and against thoughtful opponents it will be correct to mix things up (that may not be the case here). What's interesting to note is that a whole bunch of different lines will end up getting about the same amount of money in total, give or take about 1 sb. |

Re: Check/Call, Check/Call, Bet...?
i just find this hand easier to play out of position if i establish strength before i see a flop.
