Anyone seen this video and have comments good/bad? I have the book but wondered how the video compares @ $59.95.

I bought it, and think it's ok. It has not been worth the cost to me, mostly because I rarely get out to a casino to play. Try and find a copy on eBay for under $40 (for both tapes).
There are people that will buy a video like this, make a copy for themselves (and possibly a friend), then sell the original on eBay. I certainly don't condone this behavior. Not me. No way. Never. Uh-uh. |

I don't really think it was worth it. I think the book suffices, as there's really nothing to see in the video that isn't already painfully obvious.

I'm not sure if these clips are from the same video, but you can check out some (free) tells clips here:
http://www.planetpoker.com/mcu/default.htm Click on MCU Library and then click on Audio & Video...they use quicktime and are obviously very compressed to work over the internet, but it should give you an idea of what to expect at least. peace, jHE |

I just took the time to view all the quicktime movies located at MCU (see above post for link). This is a good chunk of the 2-video set, I can't see why anyone would spend $60 for this now that these are freely available.
I found that I can set the quicktime preferences to save a copy of each .mov file in the temporary internet cache, then was able to copy and save these for future viewing. |

LOL. Judging by your picture I'd be pretty intimidated to play against ya! Take care... |

hi all,
I just wanted to chime in on this topic, because i think these tapes are worth their weight in gold to the average winning player at low limits (10-20 and down). I regard them as the 2nd most important purchase in my poker education (after Theory of Poker-they're that valuable!). Here's why: at the limits I mentioned, the kinds of tells illustrated in the videos are prevalent and valuable. And bad players aren't the only ones who exhibit them. I commonly see young, consistent winners at these limits with bad cases of hand shaking, misdirected bets, and splashing chips when bluffing. It's not a major problem for them, as most of the other players are oblivious. But, if/when they step up to bigger games, they'll be devoured by their more aware opponents. Further, if you are one of these otherwise decent players, this video will set you apart from the numerous others like you, and you'll move up quicker than your peers by winning more in the small games and being better equipped to survive in bigger games. I split the cost with a friend, and when the videos arrived, i came home to find him watching them and laughing, already having written them off as obvious and useless, 25 minutes in. Yet the first thing I saw was a demonstration of a tell that I'd seen him do many times, but I hadn't understood what it meant until then. They require the viewer to do some hard work and thinking, just as any educational tool requires. It's true that they contain lots of info many players already know, but that's important; there's bound to be one or two common tells you haven't picked up on in your other study/experience. It helps to fill in the cracks in your knowledge. One example: when a 3rd suited card hits the board in hold'em, and an unsophisticated player peeks at his hole cards quickly, this means that he DOES NOT have the flush yet. If he bets strongly after peeking, he probably has a big card in that suit. Many players know this, but I did not, and was already consistently beating 5-10 games. So, there was a gap in my knowledge that was filled, one that was easily worth more than 60 bucks. As far as the relative value of the videos to the book goes, it's a matter of how you learn best. For me, the videos were more helpful, though i reccommend both. I haven't viewed the quicktime bits, but I consider every item in the videos to be worthwhile. Best of luck. |
