Their tournaments suck. Blinds go up too quickly, and their rake is way to high (30% during the day tournies). Is this tournament any different? I was out of town during the sign up.

I would sure hope they change thier format for bigger tournaments. When the Fort ran the $125 sats to WSOP last winter/spring thier structure was great for a bigger buy-in tourney. I even suggested (and was echoed by others) that if FM ran a high buy-in tourney like this witha cash payout structure a lot of players would play.

You know of anyplace in the valey that doesn't have a 30% VIG without an aggressive blind structure?

Anyway, no this one is different.

Starting chips are 5000, there are 4 or 6 30min levels with less aggressive increases, then it goes to 60min levels.

BTW, if you are thinking about signing up, forget it, it was sold out weeks ago. You might be able to find someone selling a seat, but dont count on it.

$300+$30

It sold out the 400 seats in like two weeks, I am not sure if they sold alt seats or not.

It is going to be something to see almost every table in there running as tournament.

That's why I play online.

That actually sounds much better (with only 10% vig too). I figured it would be the best tournament of the year, but was out of town for a month when I read it had already sold out. I'd like their regular tournies if they just started with more than 2k chips so you aren't stuck playing all-in poker after tow bad hands.

I'm actually thinking of talking to Dave, the guy who seems to run all the tournies, about methods of improving their tournaments. Specifically, it appears they believe they need to rake at least $20-$30 per player to make it worthwhile. I was going to suggest they jack the weekend and nightly tournaments to a $270+30, or $225+25. That keeps the vig more reasonable.

And to keep the low limit players in the tournies, they could then run single table satellites for $35-$70 that pay one or two entries into the tournament. I think this way not only will the tournies be better, but CasinoAZ might make more money (from the satellites).

Either way they should run some SNG tables, it's the only way to play NL in AZ, and they are fun as hell.

I agree 110%! I would love to see them raise the buy-in, after all at $100+$30 they are selling out 170 seats (150 + 20 alts) everytime and have been for months. I would venture to say it would sell out even with a buyin of $300+$30.

From what I hear they absolutely suck at sats. I guess they ran some last year and totally screwed them up. But if Dave can handle them right they would work well.

HERE, HERE!

I would love to see them run three tables... with 10% VIG, 15-20 min levels. They would have to keep them short or they would take too long to be profitable. If they run more than hour 15min or an hour 30min they are going to lose money, which they will never do. IF they were to run higher limits then the time could go longer and still be profitable.

It really wouldn't be all that hard to do either. Just buy some kitchen count down timers, print out a list with the levels on them, setup the dealers tray with chips and setup a signup area over on the high stakes board. Have the players buyin at the table when it's called. Someone from the floor can convert the prize pool to chips and bring them back to the dealer to pay out to the winners.

Pay top 3 50,30,20.

They only loosers are going to be the dealers missing tips... but with any luck with the dealers making the payouts they will get theirs too.

1) $100+$10 ten handed on one of the tournament tables. That gives them $100 to compensate for rake, so this level would have to move fast to work for them.

2) $300+$30.

3) $500+$50.

OK, so this is happening this Saturday... We have all these people that post on AZ related things, I give up my "secret" parking place for CA in a post and it gets filled up the next night (read lots of lurkers)... and yet not a single, "Yep I am in".

This should be a hell of a tournament, with one or more WSOP braclet winners likely playing (I think Tony and Pat are registered), maybe a named local pro or two or three (rumors abound), $50K minimum for 1st, what more can I say.
