Default Interesting Situation - Live tourny - 2nd hand

39 entrants $20 buy-in - 3500 chips
Blinds 25/50

it's the 2nd hand of the tourney, actually just before the 2nd hand. One of the players gets a phone call, says he has to go, puts his chips in the middle, mucks his hand and leaves. Winner of the hand takes the stack of course.

I have 910s

I am the button - checked to me pre-flop. I bet $500 and it is called by 4 people.

flop comes 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

UTG goes all in and is called by 3 of the players at the table.

I call to make it 5-way

Hole cards as follows

Q70
Ax(3 or 4 I blv)o
85o
35s

To make a long story short Q7o hits trips on the river to win.

Was this a good move to get in this hand with what I had, knowing that the winner would probably get trip / quad up?

Or should I have folded, hoping the table would break up soon?

Then again I may have been better off pushing pf, probably knocking q7 out early, I figured if I did make this call, I wanted as many people in the pot as possible, although it ended up costing me the hand to a hand.

What would you do?

I need a few things clarified...

1. Why weren't this guy's chips blinded off?
2. What do you mean it was checked to you preflop?

Having a hard time following this..

1st - he went all in by pushing his chips in the center of the table, then mucked his cards. This was all b4 the hole cards were dealt. The pit boss (bar, not casino obvioulsy) - ruled that winner of the hand would get the pot. This was incorrect imo, because as you say he should have just been blinded in or treated it as an all in. But it was what it was.

I realize this was a unique situation, not likely to repeat itself, I just wanted to hear what other people would have done in that instance

"Or should I have folded, hoping the table would break up soon?"

First of all this is the second hand of the tournament right so why would it break up soon? Secondly, what does it have to do with how you play your hand?

Is this a rebuy tournament? If it is, I'd call, if not I'd probably fold, as you could easily be beat and only drawing to 4 outs (your gutshot) to win the hand, and that might even only get you a tie.

The table, not the hand. Actually at that point it was probably more likley that they would pull people from other tables b4 they would split the table up, so I guess that was a moot point by me.

No re-buy.

Regardless, you have 9-10 here. Let someone else make a move on it; after all it's the second hand.

P.S. I'd avoid playing a tournament with such bizarre decision-making on the part of the floor.

Ah, a bar tournament. That explains it. I don't count those tournaments as poker really..Good times though if you wanna get drunk.

true, but it's like 3 minutes from my house and I usually at least finish in the money (if not in the top 3). Yeah, it's not really poker, but I mainly just use it to see hands, and practice for my cash game on Saturdays. It's the same way for most of the people there. Most of them play in regular home games / tournies at various buy-in levels. The closest real casino is in OK or Shreveport.

how can u even make a strategy for this fake poker tournament. no one knows how to play including yourself. how do you bet $500 preflop when blinds are 25/50...

and how do u call with mid pair 10/k with all those ppl all in in front of you. you have nothing but a gut shot draw at best
