Default Talk me out of it ??

Looking for a little help here.

First off . . . a big thanks to Cubs for posting about this offer. I need to pick up a laptop before mid September. Thought this looked like a pretty good deal . . . so I pulled the trigger this afternoon. What I'm looking for is some devil's advocate type stuff on why I should cancel the order and wait for that "better" deal that is just around the corner . . . .

About the only thing I think I would change from this spec is the hard drive. I figured when ordering I would get the 1.86 GHz processor or at the very least the 1.6 with the faster (533 MHz) bus. With this deal neither were an option. Am I giving up much with this configuration or will it serve my (mainly) Poker needs more than adequetly (sp. it's late).

Any and all advice would be much appreciated !!

Cancel it. I think the 9300 is way better then the 6000.

Faster FSB
wider screen(better for mtabling)

memory is not shared
etc

Side-by-side comparison? Your comparing a celery to a pentium m... when the OP cleary states he wants a pentium m....

anywho....there are some trade-offs. the 9300 is going to have a 17 inch monitor as compared to the 15.4 of the 6000. it will be a tad bit faster... but 99.5% of PC users will never even recognize this difference. on the downside, the 9300 is truely a desktop replacement and really doesnt travel all that well as compared to the 6000. the 6000 will give you a bit more mobility if you want to play...say... from the porcelain throne.

also, when i speced out the machine in that thread....and it looks like you almost took my specs item-for-item... i only included a 40gig HD because external harddrives are so so cheap these days. im pretty sure 40 gig will suit your poker needs just fine.... and you could always pick up a external HD for your music and movies/porn

Yeh . . . I'm not interested in the 9300. My buddy had one and it's way too big for what I'm looking for. 90% of the time it will be on my desk plugged into a 2001fp and the other 10% of the time I'd rather not be lugging around an extra "suitcase".

Anyone whose purchased a 6000 in the last little while have any thoughts ??

cheers

Sorry, can't talk you out of it. I bought mine a couple months ago and love it. Pretty similar price and specs. No problems at all running poker stuff (PT, Aces HUD). I don't play video games or anything, so no info there. I know the price is nothing to fall all over yourself about, but it was good for me and I didn't want to wait.

That indeed is looking like a decently tasty deal on the 6000.

I guess it's a matter of taste.

I got the 9300 a couple months ago and love it.
I also don't think it's TOO big.
I really would hesitate to call it a 'replacement laptop'.
Obviously it's not as small as a 'regular size' laptop like the 6000....but it still travels reasonably conveniently.

but then I see the laptop that my GF and her brother share and it looks REALLY teeny (it's probably a 14" screen or something).

My GF saw my new 9300 and said "geez...look at how big it is. that's a MONSTER!" (oh wait....I think she was talking about something else).

Now that I know from others' reports that 1900x1200 really isn't TOO TOO small to see on a 6000 I would probably more strongly have considered getting that.

But I'm VERY happy with my 9300....and the slightly larger tables on the 17" screen allowing me to sit WAY back from the computer and still see everything is probably worth it.

I just posted a question about this in the computer tech forum copied below:

I want a new laptop! but 15" screen seems awful small? Is it?
Even though my vision is fine (at least it was the last time I took a drivers exam),I think the fonts are too small on my 2001FP. I increased them in control panel to "Large fonts" but that doesn't seem to change the size of the fonts on my word processor or in the body of posts like in this forum. I sit about 24" from the screen at my desktop and have never had a laptop before. Is the 15" going to feel right or do I just need to go with the 9300 and the 17" screen? Price is not an issue although I would like to keep the size fairly compact. Speaking of which are there any other 17" laptops that are lighter, still doing 1600 x 1200, that maybe cost a little more?
