Default Do you like calling this?

No converter for FullTilt that I know of...

(1036191), Table 12 - 120/240 Ante 25 - No Limit Hold'em -
Seat 1: Villian (7,681)
Seat 2: UTG+1 (403)
Seat 3: UTG+2 (6,480)
Seat 4: MP1 (5,611)
Seat 5: Hero (4,635)
Seat 7: Button (4,045)
Seat 8: SB (1,595)
Seat 9: BB (6,491)
Villian antes 25
UTG+1 antes 25
UTG+2 antes 25
MP1 antes 25
Hero antes 25
Button antes 25
SB antes 25
BB antes 25
SB posts the small blind of 120
BB posts the big blind of 240
The button is in seat #7
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [Qd Qc]
Villian raises to 480
UTG+1 folds
UTG+2 folds
MP1 folds
Hero raises to 1,110
Button folds
SB folds
BB folds
Villian calls 630
*** FLOP *** [5s 8c 8h]
Villian has 15 seconds left to act
Villian bets 6,546, and is all in
Hero: I gotta call
Hero calls 3,500, and is all in

Villian is brand new at this table - this may have been his first hand at this table. The only read-worthy factor is that it took him a while to call preflop.

Do you like the reraise? Do you feel comfortable calling on the flop?

I like the re-raise and no, I'm not comfortable on the flop. But I'm going to call. 3 overpairs smaller than yours versus 2 bigger ones. Plus the AK typical push often seen in online MTTs.

I would lean towards making a more committing raise preflop and at least giving your opponent the chance to fold. They usually won't consider folding for another 600 chips when theyve already put in 480.

I'd raise to about 1500 with the intention of getting all my chips in on the flop unless something really terrible happens. However one overcard on the flop won't discourage me most of the time, especially a king.

Also I would definitely call the flop, and I don't think its a close decision.

yea, raise a bit more preflop, and definitely call the flop, feels like 9's, maybe AK. I can't imagine that he'd play A8s this way, or AA or KK. any of those hands and he'll wait for you to bet on the flop. Definitely call

I thought about raising more, here's why I raised what I did:

First, there really wan't all that much preflop reraising except from real monsters. I wanted to allow a hand like AQ, maybe AJ, and hand like 88 to be priced in. I guess I was also pricing in AK, but I didn't care.

Second, the reraise actually was almost 2.5x the original raise, so it wasn't a simple miniraise.

Third, the raise left me with 3,500 chips and the blinds were still at 120/240. I could get away from the hand if he comes over the top and I smell aces.

Fourth, the 3,500 chips gives me considerable FE on the flop. There will be less than 3,000 in the pot on the flop and I will easily drive out an unimproved A-high. I will also easily get called by a top pair hand like AJ, or an unimproved pair of jacks or tens if it comes rags.

Thoughts?

Just to confirm, I don't think it's a close decision on the flop as well. I'm just not feeling too comfortable, that's all.

Kudos on thinking thoroughly about the hand and having a game plan post-flop.

Default Results...

I didn't think it was a close decision at all and of course I called. Villian flipped over JJ and I doubled up real nicely.

I won this hand and I believe I played it very well, I just wanted to post it to see if there was any other way to look at the situation that I may have missed.

The only real critisism that I saw was that I probably should have raised more preflop. I gave reasons why my reraise was not huge, but any other thoughts would be good.
