Default New to short-handed, i play this bad?

new to the table so no reads on any of the players.

My thinking on the turn was if i bet and he calls or raises either hes got me drawing dead with an 8 or were drawing dead so i make no profit. theres not many scare cards out there so i checked to hopefully induce a bluff on the river by a hand that would fold if i bet the turn.

Do you like the play or is my thinking wrong here. Is it safe to just lead out then to try and i guess be fancy.

You need to bet the turn and the river, if you get checkraised call it down. Any pocketpair will probaly call you down and many people call down with ace high, you cant give freecards to a king or an ace so you really need to bet the turn.

Easy turn bet, and the way you played it river raise. Giving him credit for the case 8 without him showing any sign of it is weak tight.

def the way you played you should raise that river...I believe for some reason you had the mindset of splitting or losing..never occurred to you that you had a good shot at winning it
