Default AQ in BB

Simple question. I pick up AQ in the BB, and the rock of the ages, nickname "stoney", raises UTG. If he figures to only raise nines and up, AK, AQ and possibly, just maybe AJs, although I doubt it.So who calls the raise? He isnt very aggresive post flop, but plays well and never gives a bet away. I folded, and a very solid player to my right told me he thought I was out of my mind.

if you thought to fold it was probably right for you

i think this is a matter of how you handle things post-flop, but you're certainly not giving up much if any by folding.

An easy fold to a rocky UTG raise. I'de toss it even if it was suited unless there were a couple of callers. Then again I'm tighter than a snare drum.

Everybody knows to fold trouble hands in the BB. Of course, the usual meaning of this is the KJ, AJ type hand. But AQ is a trouble hand against this guy. So unless you are really good at playing trouble hands out of position, fold.

"Everybody knows to fold trouble hands in the BB."

They do?

"Of course, the usual meaning of this is the KJ, AJ type hand."

If AJ is trouble, then what do you call 9-5?

I wanted to clarify when I said "everyone knows to fold trouble hands", I meant such hands vs. a tight raiser. I call raises in the BB with hands like KJo, AJo even QTo and JTo, but not against a tight raisers. Here, AQ seems to fit the bill as a "trouble hand" vs. this particular opponent.

aq is way better than 95s vs 99, tt, jj, aj. it's a push w/aq. it's only losing to qq and kk and losing badly to aa and ak.
