Default My very first 5/10 hand

I decided to take a shot at 5/10 -- I have about 250BBs, and I think I play okay.

This was my first hand at the table... well, first to the flop. I posted in the BB, and folded both blind hands to PFRs. Then, 3rd hand, I get this on the button.

So obviously my reads aren't much. With no stats on anyone at this level, I really have no reads. But in the orbit I was waiting to post, I noticed that UTG+1 was on the loose side, and SB was on the TAGgish side.

Note: the converter is messing up, so I'll have to type out most of this...

Party Poker (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
3 limps, 3 folds, I RAISE. SB 3-BETS, 2 folds, 2 calls, I call.

Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB bets, UTG+1 calls, I call.

Turn: 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets, UTG+1 folds, I call.

River: 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets, I call.

What do you think of raising the flop? I think once you get to the turn your line is great, but the only real decision for me comes on the flop.

I guess I didn't ask any specific questions. Does anyone raise the turn for a free showdown, intending to fold to a 3-bet? Raise the flop for some reason?

The only reasonable PF 3-bet hands I'm beating are AK and AQ.

I think the 5 makes for a decent turn card to raise and fold to a 3-bet (two-pair outs typically gone). You don't look in good shape once you get to the river this way, though.

I don't know, I was actually thinking the turn was tougher. On the flop, I've got TP, but against a PF 3-bet, jacks don't look amazing, esp. with a Q kicker. Also, it's draw heavy and I think my equity will go up with a safe card on the turn. If a raise should come post flop in this hand, I think it could have been the turn.

But my thinking was, if I'm up against AA-QQ, I wanna lose the least. If I'm up against AK/AQ, I want him to bet my hand for me.

If he has AK/AQ he's probably betting the river or check calling it, for this reason I like just calling down to make sure we don't get knocked out with the best hand. With a read he wouldn't 3 bet the turn with a worse hand and wouldn't put 1 more bet in on the river UI, I like raising the turn.

Edit: Plus we usually have 2 outs if behind, however negligible it might seem, they are worth something.

Raise the turn and bet the river.

Since you are going to showdown this hand, put your bets in on the turn when you have some fold equity going for you. Raise it. I'd also bet the river blank.

I'm thinking maybe raise the turn to give him a chance to incorrectly fold AK/AQ?

He's a TAG, he's not falling for that.
