Default Review: Hand 3, 88

So I just got started with the review session and I made it as far as hand 3 before I had a question. Does everyone raise this turn?

Once BB reraises the flop we should believe that we're behind. The only hand we're infront of that BB is probably playing this way is 77 - not a very wide range of hands.

I'd just call the turn for the gutshot, and call / fold the river, read depending. I'm more likely to fold to a passive opponent.

I had this hand marked as well. I definitely do not raise the turn here. If I think I have the best hand after the villian 3 bets the flop then I would cap it. If he leads out on the turn then I call down or fold if I have a good read. It appears that villian is fairly passive and may have checked the turn if the flop had been cappped.

However, I agree with Dave that we are likely behind on the flop if a passive player is raising here.

If I'm the villian, then I'm reraising the turn.

Agreed. As an addendum, it seems pretty likely that we're behind after the turn 3-bet. But there is a possibility that Villain is getting frisky with a draw/77 here. Can anyone find a fold, or do we pay it off?

I pay off this river without a read. Given that Hero calls the turn, he is getting 10:1 on the river. I think we're good here almost that amount, and the information we get here early in the session from calling will help us later on.

I agree. You lose less than you think when this happens. Villains (generically) are more aggressive than you want to believe.

Honestly I can't think of a single instance I would ever play a hand like this, unless villian is a stone cold maniac. If villian is passive enough that he would back off to a turn raise like this I would check through the river.

So if the turn were the 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], would you fold the turn?

No. If he has trips, it's an awful weird way to play trips, the turn didn't complete a flush, and there's no overcard to our 8s, so I think we are still good here often enough to see the river, planning on calling down.

well i'm glad i'm not the only one who marked this.

my note: "spew raise on turn". because we have the gutshot i'll just call the turn and waffle between paying off and folding UI on the river.

but, we didn't have the backdoor, i think we could raise/fold this turn. very rare is the player who will 3-bet a blank turn w/o trips IMO.
