TheFacebook was created by someone who was already working on ConnectU (which is the exact same type of site). Instead, he broke off, and, in a matter of weeks created Facebook by himself and launched it before ConnectU could go off in order to make money himself, instead of as a team. There's already been a lot written about it, and most people hate the guy.
