Default coming to a NL game near you...

recently karil jerasimov pulled a classic angle in a wsop event. it was covered in card player as an amazing call NOT an angle BUT IT WAS AN ANGLE ... the coverage will cause this angle to have a renaissance of sorts among punk kid newbies across the country.

the angle works like this...you're out of position with a draw and one opponent you may be betting all the way or check calling...you miss on the river but your hand has some high card value, the pot is big enough you want to win it but you dont want to make a big bet or call a big bet sooooo, you just check and then before your opponent acts you pretend he checked behind you and you flip your hand and say something like "i missed, you got it". then you watch your opponent intently, if you really do have him high carded it will become very apparent and he will bet and usually bet BIG and then you can make an "amazing" call.

some punk already tried to pull this on me ... here is the proper counter maneuver. once the punks hand is exposed and you know you have him beat DONT JUST MOVE ALL IN, these kids may not have the balls to finish the angle and they'll fold and youll miss a golden opportunity to break them financially and psychologically. the first thing to do is declare the exposed hand dead. everyone will tell you it isnt (they are correct) be defiant, call the floor. once the floor man tells you the hand is live say, "fine, im all in" the hook is set so deep now your sh*thead opponent will beat you into the pot. once the hands are exposed all hell will break loose...the rest of the degenerates in the casino will think a jackpot hand has been dealt at your table.

Nice informative post. I really enjoy reading these types of posts and more about mental edges and psychology than the basic strategy posts. Nick work.

Default oh yeah...

if he flips his hand and he actually has you beat say "im gonna charge you $x for exposing your hand out of turn" and bett appx 1/10 of the pot (or less). your opponent will ususally be too "smart" to pay that charge...ORRRR, if your really on your toes and a good actor pretend you never saw him flip his hand over, act real oblivious and bet 1/3 the pot.

Can't you also just punch him in the face and call him an angle shooting a-hole?

angle shooters are weak players and good for the game as long as they dont scare the other fish away ... when you identify an angle shooter you have to make a business decision on whether to keep him in the game or chase him out
