I assure you (and emptyshell will surely attest when he sees this post) that I did not make this HH up.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking on this hand. I was probably on tilt or something.

Unfortunately, it is real.

Could either or both of you please explain your thought processes during this hand? I'm new to O8, and now next to nothing about PLO8, and i'm rather puzzled by this hand. On the flop, Wintermute, you have a draw to the 3rd nut low and a pair of eights + a backdoor flush draw. Is this an automatic call in PLO8 HU? Or did you have a read on emptyshell indicating weakness?

Well, technically speaking this isn't really a suckout since the money went in after you were ahead. If you had gotten all in on the flop, that would be a suckout. Clever turn call, though.

That's an awesome suckout Jorge. Actually, I can top it, I hit a runner-runner str flush against flopped quad jacks once. This was before PTO so I don't have the HH, but I do have a witness, mxyzptlk is his 2+2 name...

Anyhow, when I wrote this post I originally did just intend to post a funny beat I put on emptyshell. But as I was posting it I started thinking about it a little more, and while it was truly awful, I learned something important from it... I'll post about what that is in a while, but try thinking over the preflop action first.

kitaristi0, I'd say it's pretty clear what emptyshell was thinking... probably something along the lines of "I like money, let's see if this guy will give me some." As for what I was thinking, you sort of had to see some of the previous hands to justify what I did... for one thing, he was re-raising my raises from the button frequently and showing down garbage. Also, that flop doesn't look too bad to me, assuming he doesn't have 23 or 24, which isn't too horrible of an assumption in a heads up situation. So I tried to buy it right there. When he raised me, I was getting 2:1 on a call (with no more action to come because he's short-stacked!), and it's rare to be that far behind in a heads up situation with a low draw and a pair (I was actually behind 87:13, FWIW), so I called.

Overall, even though I had a reason to believe that he was trying to run me over, and my hand wasn't a complete catastrophe on the flop that it appears to be once you see what I was up against, I definitely did play this hand poorly, and wouldn't advocate that this is the right thing to do by any means.

But still, there's something else interesting about this hand... think preflop.
