What causes terrorism revisited
I propose that depression, humiliation, and occupation are not causes of terrorism.
Terrorism is a strategic tactic used by political leaders to bring worldwide attention to their cause. I submit, that the people of Tibet, who have been oppressed and humiliated for decades, have never resorted to terrorism, while the fifth-rate human rights issue that is the Palestinians uses terrorism as a method of first resort and just received 3.5 billion dollars from the G8 nations. |

Isn't this a tad overly simplistic?

[ QUOTE ]
I propose that depression, humiliation, and occupation are not causes of terrorism. [/ QUOTE ] Remember you need somebody with strong enough hate, like suicide bombers. The factors above contribute to that. You see more terrorists in Gaza than in Jordan. [ QUOTE ] Terrorism is a strategic tactic used by political leaders to bring worldwide attention to their cause. [/ QUOTE ] Jihadists have foras where they discuss what sort of terrorism will lead them closer to their goal, so obviously. [ QUOTE ] I submit, that the people of Tibet, who have been oppressed and humiliated for decades, have never resorted to terrorism, while the fifth-rate human rights issue that is the Palestinians uses terrorism as a method of first resort and just received 3.5 billion dollars from the G8 nations. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, there is a Tibetian minority who wants to use more violence (all violence is labeled as terrorism today) but Dalai Lama has kept the lid on. The minority argues that violence has been effective elsewhere, in which they are true. |

Obviously there are other factors in place. Osama was neither directly "oppressed". |

Re: What causes terrorism revisited
Most "terrorism" around the world is nothing other than governments, in conjunction with the media, carrying out attacks on their own people to justify and rally support for their own agendas.
Why this is such a hard concept for most people to understand despite the sheer obviousness of it all, is simply beyond me. |

Re: What causes terrorism revisited
While you may indeed have some valid points, I submit that a contributing factor to Palestinian terrorism is their human rights being thought about and treated as fifth-rate by the Jews.

[/ QUOTE ] did the american slaves engage in acts of terrorism? how about the peoples conquered and enslaved, mistreated by the romans. Did the commoners engage in terrorism against nobels? These are genuine questions, that I do not have the answer to. |
