How badly did I play this river/ Get Owned?

Villan is solid 25/17 or so and seems always be at the same tables.
10/20 6-max.
I raise AQo utg and he threebets on the button.
Flop K 10 x suits unimportant.
I check call;
Turn an A.
I check call.
River is a blank.
I bet/fold?
Villan shows 88 and says "the line doesnt work here".
Any where I should play this hand differently? Villan is pretty agressive, so I didnt expect the turn to get checked through here like ever, but he is reasonable so I also obviously didnt expect a worse hand to raise me on the river.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd like to add that I've taken villian's line many times against TAGs, both with underpairs and legit river raising hands and hardly anyone seems to fold to the river raise -- I see one pair hands call all day long.

I was starting to wonder if anyone anywhere really follows through with the twoplustwo line of check call, check call, bet fold with their weakish top pair hands. Perhaps my image is just always too aggro? Now that I know someone uses this line, what's your username? [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

this is my default in a lot of full games as well as 6-max, of course I like to reserve the option to bet-fold or check-call the river.

That certainly seems like the case to me!

Often when I take this line, it's with the intention of folding to the raise, then I bet and he raises, and I think I have a legit hand, and it's a good size pot, and it's just one more bet, and boy I wish I checked, and I remember two weeks ago when I called and won in a similar spot, ok I call. I really need to work on my plans.
