Default POKER INJURIES

I know this will sound funny but.

I have been haveing trouble with my wrists. It is a dull pain that goes thru my forearm. I think it is carpeltunnnel.

Has anyone else had this happen ?

It really bothers me after playing for an hour or so.

I will be going to the doctors soon but would like some input on this.

Default my opinion on carpal tunnel.

I read this somewhere a while ago.

In the late 80's ulcers were the hot topic and it seemed like everyone was getting them. In the mid 90's suddenly lower back pain became the in thing to have. When this happened ulcers significantly dropped off. They said that these were both caused by stress and was just where people were directing their stress. Either that or back pain was the miracle cure for ulcers. In my opinion, carpal tunnel has become the new trend. The reason that these things can be helped by wrist guards and what not i feel is due to a placebo effect.

That said, i believe you it hurts. Millions of Americans cant be wrong. However, perhaps a little stress management could go a long way. Or maybe one of those little gel pads you rest your wrist on i hear these help, (a search on this site from a few weeks ago for carpal tunnel will come up with a few other tips to help)

Just a month or so ago I posted about this same problem. Some ways to help: don't lean on your arms or wrists while playing. Also I had some bad problems when I bought my new computer. My wrist felt like it was broken.By fluke I started using my old mouse and the problem has gone away.So try a different shaped mouse-it could help. Also make sure your arms are not pointed upwards when using your mouse -it really makes you lean on forearms.Try raising your chair to help this.I personally find the gel pads make it worse -but try them they are supposed to help.

Start Swimming and play a little less poker.I swim 2 miles a day 6 days a week.
Its an awesome way to say fit.
You get a zen-like thing going with the deep inhalation/exhalation.you burn about 800+ calories an hour and you tone your whole body.
I am completely stoked I have finally found the perfect exercise.
Try it.Start out real slow do 1/8 or 1/4 mile.Swim 20 laps..do 20 sets of one lap then 10 sets of 2 laps ..5 of 4 etc.
I bet your nagging injuries disappear.
Play poker/work an hour or hour and a half less everyday.
You'll play better too.

not to go off topic, but i have a poker related injury as well. My AA got snapped in a big tourney and I went to kick my dog, but he moved and i ended up kicking the leg of my couch, which hurt so much i went to punch a hole in my wall, but i missed and my fist went through a window causing cuts so major the hand had to be amputated. This ever happen to anyone?
p.s. Billybean- use your left hand sometimes. it'll take pressure off your right and it feels like somebody else's.

Thanks for all the input. I have been using other arm for the last 2 days. The one thing htat someone said about useing a diiferent mouse. I recently just changed my mouse to a wirerless one and that is when the problem started a week or so later. I am going to go back to my old mouse and see if that helps.

I have tried and cut down on the hours that i play. I have cut them down to 4 or 5 a day. I was playing around 8-10 hours.

When i played B&M i use to shuffle my chips all the time 5to6 hours str8. I never had any pain from that.

When this was asked before, it turned out that half the forum seemed to have this problem.

I'm not a doctor, so my opinion here is unofficial.

However, I've spent many hours doing things that might give me carpal tunnel syndrome, particularly sitting at the computer. The reason I think it's never bothered me is because I also do lots of physically demanding work, and my hands and wrists are strong and well worked out. Try excercising them daily, perhaps weights, pull ups, etc.

also, if you don't already have them, ergonomic keyboards and desk accessories are well worth the money.

Just goes to show.. simultaneous online poker and online porn over extended periods is hazardous to your health.

I'll bet there have been worse injuries from hands going through monitors and smashing keyboards.
