Default Pokernomics.com: A Major Project Collecting Hand Histories

University of Chicago economist Steven Levitt is researching Texas Hold'Em poker and online gambling. We have created a webpage where you can go for more information about the project as well as upload your hand histories Pokernomics.

Anyone who submits 10,000+ of their own hands will receive a free analysis of their play. People submitting more than 30,000 hands will receive an analysis and a signed copy of his New York Times bestselling book "Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything". If you submit a hand history with more than 50,000 hands you will also receive a Freakonomics t-shirt.

Do you accept PT Databases or do you want the actual HHs?

But you don't like the idea of datamining, right?

And, Citanul, you don't like the idea of spam, right?

I don't like datamining, but I do it anyway. I'd rather it not be so stupidly easy to do.

This is for academic purposes and not for commercial purposes. At least they claim it is.

Sure, it's spam, but it's for an interesting cause and it will save me the expense of buying his book. I'm not going to complain.

It is, for the record, a very interesting book. I briefly entertained the possibility of seeing if Levitt needed graduate assistants; I've been looking to go back to school anyway.

Is this an academic study? Will the results be made public? What is the actual hypotheses and/or trends that will be looked for?

Our goal is to understand the factors that make players succesful at poker.

Yeah, it's academic, but the purpose seems pretty commercial. They say they won't sell data, but not that they won't sell the conclusions.

I guess it will be an interesting book.
