Default AJs?

240 person $100 buy in casino tournament. Start with 800 in chips and triple up early. Bound and determined to play aggressively and not waste away towards the bubble as usual.

25 - 50 blinds, UTG limps, MP makes it 150, I look down at AJs. Normally would not call a raise but I had position and chips so I called. UTG makes it 350 and MP calls, now I'm looking at a 925 pot and 200 to call, over 4 - 1 and position, so I call.

Flop comes A-7-7, UTG with 1,000 in chips checks as does MP. I fire out 600, about half the pot. UTG calls (I figure him for a high pair)and MP folds. Turn is blank and UTG throws his last 400 in and I call.

Should I have even been playing AJs here? Should I have bet the flop after two checks?

Fold to the reraise. So you are getting 4:1. You hit your ace, you have to think you are probably still behind. I think once you DID call, betting out on that flop is HORRIBLE. What do you expect to gain by that? Only hands folding are ones that you beat, and there probably aren't any of those still in this hand.

I hate AJs with a passion. It's headsup. Flop is A78. I bet the pot, he re-raises. For some reason, I put him on A8 and call. He had A7.

I always make dumb plays with AJ.

I agree with the fold to the reraise, what was I thinking? Well I was thinking I typically whittle away to next to nothing in tournaments waiting for premium hands. Over calling a reraise with AJs was in hindsight a stupid play. But when the flop comes with an ace and its checked around to me and they are short stacked I have to figure I'm good. Why slow play AK or AQ when you are short stacked? I put them both on pairs and bet it out. When UTG flat called with 600 and saving his last 400 I really put him on a high pair, KK or QQ. He had AA and played the hand beautifully.
