You left out the chain salons, like Great Clips or Cost Cutters. I go to Great Clips, pay twelve bucks and it usually comes out looking nice enough that my wife doesn't require me to wear a ball cap in public.

ive cut my own hair for about 4-5 years now. havent been to a barber in that long. i dont do it to save money i just really hate how the hair people never get it right. its always too short or too long or something. over the 5 years of cutting my hair ive gotten it down really well now with the blending and layering and such. only problem is its hard for me to shave my neckhair.

I picked salon because that's what I did for the four years I went to high school, but now I just go to the barber because there aren't really any good/fast/NYC salons around here.

It doesn't make that big a difference to me, but I always feel like a salon cut continues to look nice as my hair grows, but a barber cut looks good for like two weeks and then goes to hell.
