Is this an angle or unethical at all?
50-100 live, and a wild and unpredictable lunatic raises in MP. I call in BB w/ A4o. Heads up.
Flop comes Ace and two rags, all spades. I don't have a spade. I check call. Turn is a non-spade brick. I check call. River is another non-spade brick. I check, and get the instantaneous sense that he's going to check behind. Before he does, I remove the chip I had on top of my cards, and move them about 1/4" towards the muck....I try to make it obvious that I'm going to muck. I think he sees this, so he fires out a bet, and I of course call. He mucks without showing. I'm pretty sure that my maneuvering 'earned' me another bet. But is this sort of maneuvering unethical at all? Josh |

"But is this sort of maneuvering unethical at all?"
what you described is not. change it to some sort of other strange scenario and it could be. |

Re: Is this an angle or unethical at all?
you're inducing a bet by using a tell.
change the situation a bit and it might be an angle shot but as is i dont see anything 'unethical' about it -Barron |

Re: Is this an angle or unethical at all?
This is just standard "Hollywood," though the move itself is a little unique. But I don't see it as being any different from trying to send any other false tell.

Not unethical at all - just a false tell...and a pretty damn creative one at that.

Re: Is this an angle or unethical at all?
What about this manuveur. I'm in last position and missed my draw on the river. First to act checks. Second to act bets. I know the better is a compulsive bluffer so I make a move and Raise with nothing. First to act doesn't want to call if he's going to be overcalled or raised. So he throws his cards in the muck - except he doesn't let go of them. The bluffer immediately mucks his cards behind him. But lo and behold the first mucker's cards are back in play like a yo-yo on a string. He calls the two bets with something like second pair and takes down a huge pot.

"But is this sort of maneuvering unethical at all?"
No. I did something yesterday at the Mirage that was a little bit out of character for me. Really I was just showing off for The Babe. A couple hours into the game, I had not spoken yet. There was one guy talking a lot about the play of the hands after the hands. This hand came up between me, him (HIM), and some other guy (SOG). The flop was J-5-2 rainbow. I had flopped a set with 22. The turn was a king. SOG had KK. When I raised the turn, HIM folded. On the river it was headsup. SOG bet and I called. SOG showed hispocket kings and I mucked perfectly from the six seat with my cards landing exactly on top of the muck. HIM asked to see my hand. The dealer acted like my cards were irretrievable, as dealers do who don't approve of people asking to hands in situations like this one. My hand did not get turned over and HIM kept complaining about it after the dealer had gathered the deck and preserved the sanctity of my hand forever. I said to HIM: "You could just ask me what I had." HIM made some extra sounds, and then he said, "Okay, so what did you have?" I had my usual reply ready. And I think he got the message. Tommy |
