Default effective odds/implied odds

5/10 (3 handed)

I have 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img],2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in the SB.
button limps, I complete, BB checks.

flop is J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img],5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img],7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3sb)
I bet, BB calls, Button calls.

turn is the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3BB)
I check, BB bets, Button raises...

Is this call profitable?

i'd be getting 11-4 or 2.75-1...I need 4-1. so, i need to make up 1BB if it doesn't get 3-bet behind me...3BB if it does get 3-bet behind me...and 5BB if it gets capped.

well, 9 outs to a flush which will be good most of the time, 2 outs to trips which may or may not be good, 3 outs to two pair which may or may not be good. it sounds like you are making your calculations on the assumption that your other outs are never good, so I think those outs being good some of the time means you can call here, I don't think effective odds are as big a concern since you don't need to call a river bet UI.

ok, i did call.

the river brings the 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

I should probably check/raise, but lead out...SB raises, button calls...easy 3-bet?

With 4 to a straight? Yes, an easy 3-bet.

thats what I was thinking. everyone calls and SB shows T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img],9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Man, I did the same thing last night. Called one bet on the river with my "jack high flush" when I correctly read my opponent having rivered a full house. Then the pot went to me -- good job leaving $30 on the table Dan!
