Default How bad was this play?

Let me start by saying that I am not a good tournament player but for some reason I found myself on the final table of a 400 person tournament.

There are eight people left with the chip leader having about T 100000 in the big blind and I have T 68500 in the cut-off I am in third. There are two or three people short stacked and the blinds are 3000 - 6000. The chip leader is very aggressive I have been on his table for a while now.

It is folded to me in the cut-off I have KJ of spades. I raise to 18000 to try and steal the blinds, everyone folds to the chip leader in the big blind he calls uh-oh?
The flop comes J 8 5 two spades. I have top pair good kicker and the flush draw. He bets 15000 into the 21000 pot. So the pot is 36000 and I have 50500 left. My choices here I think are to go all-in or fold?

Puusssshhh!!!!

You said yourself he was being really aggressive. He didn't re-raise, so don't worry about AA, KK, QQ. Would he call a raise with 88 or 55?

You're only behind AA, KK, QQ, AJ, 88, and 55. Rule out the first 3 as he'd re-raise preflop.

You say the BB has been agressive? Well, since he only called preflop, you can assign a low probability to many of the hands that beat you like AA, KK, QQ, JJ and some of the hands you beat like AK & AQ. 88 & 55 are real posibilities with the preflop call and that 1/2 pot bet. What about J8, or J5? J8s maybe. KJ, QJ, JT? These are very strong posibilities. Also somewhat probable is Axs.

In short, you have the BB beat much of the time and when you trail, you have a draw to win anyway.

I would therefore push.

I push so fast his head spins. Even if you're losing after the flop (and given the way you described him, and the hand, I would suspect you weren't), then you have plenty of outs.

You have a big hand, with a big draw, and a big pot against a reckless player at the final table. This is why you play the game.

Pushing without thinking is a reckless play ... even if the specific action is correct.

Is this a joke?

Could someone realistically think about folding here?

Two fun stories...

11 players left, in UB 10K. I am raising 2.5xBB about 50% of the flops once we got 6 handed. I raise from UG with 77.
Button called with about 10xBB behind, I have about 25.

Flop T T 3, I push, he folds jacks face up.

Hand #2

Early on in UB 9.5K (1st 10 hands)

JTs in SB. One limper, I complete, BB min-raises. Both call

Flop J 9 4, one of my suit. I bet 75% of the pot. BB calls.

Turn 7, now two diamonds (none for me). I bet 75% of the pot, he folds KK face up, and types "Nice Set"
