ok...i'll admit about a year ago i was a fish, i learned the hard way and lost a decent amount of money. Then i started winning a "begginers" home game $10 tourney, i would regulary bring in the win, so then i got introduced to this other guy who was much better played in a few casino tourneys and made money, also a profitable bj player, so he hooked me up with supersytems. I dont play anything but NL hold em' and NL omaha an 7card stud for smalls "fun amounts" to mess around what books would u recomend, i now lpay everday in home ring games and am the top notch or 2nd best player...and recomends please

I dont play anything but NL hold em' and NL omaha an 7card stud [/ QUOTE ] That's a lot of different games. I would suggest picking one to focus on, at first at least. Obviously, NLH is by far the most popular these days (sigh), so that might be the logical choice. As far as books, there are lots of options on the market for players at different levels, different aspects of the game, and different games, of course. Your best bet is probably to browse through the archives of this forum, where most of the books have been discussed to death already. Or, if that's too much work, just go to the front page of this site, twoplustwo.com. Pick something that looks interesting, read the sample section/reviews. Most of the 2+2 books are excellent, and all are at least decent. |

Your new so I will humor you, but you will want to get aquainted with the search function before you get hit with some hostility sooner or later.
As far as NL, and PL goes your a little bit in the shallow end of the pool. I've glanced through Getting Started In Hold'Em by Ed Miller and it has some great things in there on the subject so I suggest you pick that up. Also If your looking to splurge grab Theory of Poker by David Sklansky. Don't be ashamed if you don't grasp all the concepts the first read through, but you still need to be at least familiar with the concepts. After that get yourself a decent bankroll and play some hands at the lowest NL tables and get a feel for what the books are telling you. Also make sure to peruse the NL forums here. When your ready for a little advanced reading get yourself a copy of Pot Limit and No Limit Poker by by Stewart Rueben and Bob Ciaffone. You might also look into the Harrington On Hold'Em books, although they primarily focus on tournament play, especially the second book. Apparently there is also a NL cash game book coming out soon.(sometime in the Fall I think) As far as 7 stud goes, I had a little luck with Roy West's book, although that was quite some time ago when I got started in this whole thing. I can remember a lot advice that would be considered "weak-tight" but not bad for getting started. After that the only book I can think of is 7 Stud for Advanced Players. Hope that helped. Good Luck. |
