Four Choices
Playing against typical slightly weak tight 15-30 players, you have 7c6h in the big blind. Three players limp as does SB. Flop is Kc 9d 8c. You check. First limper bets and only you call. The next card is the deuce of clubs. Do you bet or check? And if you check is it with the intention of calling raising or folding if bet into?

Re: Four Choices
Weak, tight, eh? I would check with the intent of raising.

Re: Four Choices
I'd bet out -- give the better but non-club holding hand a chance to fold.

Re: Four Choices
I've played a few sessions of 15-30 in Vegas, but not enough to know what the 'typical' weak-tight player is like. So here are my assumptions of a weak-tighty if first in:
-they won't try to limp reraise with AA, KK. -would raise with AK -will limp with 88-TT -suited, will fold QJs or worse, will limp with KJs or better, sometimes limping with AKs -might limp with KQ or AQ (would anyone do this?) With these assumtions my read on this opponent would be: -most likely hand, pair of Ks with non-club kicker -less likely, set of 8s or 9s, pair of Ks with Q [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] ,A [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] My play would be to check raise and expect to take down the pot |

Re: Four Choices
I would check-fold or bet here, depending on my read on whether this weak-tight player would limp with KJ or KQ. Betting saves you a bet when beat and I am not sure checkraising will really fold hands either here or with a follow up river bet that betting both streets will not. Surely hands like KhQc will call and probably Jc10h as well. And while the latter will fold the river if a club doesnt come, I don't see the former calling the river in the same situation when led into twice in a row but folding when checkraised and then led into. Or not often enough making this distinction to make up for the loss of a bet in the many times that you are beat, either by a flush or by a calling station after you miss.
Does anybody fold on the flop here? |

Re: Four Choices
still check-call. The draw is a bit thin for a bet or a check-raise.

Re: Four Choices
Check and fold.
-Your straight draw may be cripled -The pot is relatively small -There are many hands that an EP limper would call you down with |

Re: Four Choices
Well with him being weak/tight, do you have a good indication on what he is likely to do? Is he more likely to fold when you bet into him with the club scare card falling on the turn. Or is it more likely that if you go for a check raise on the turn that you could win it right there? These are two important questions when trying to analyze the player at hand especially having him weak/tight. Then play accordingly based on this information.

Re: Four Choices
Check and fold if he/she bets. The 3rd club will scare your opponent as much if not more than it scares you. If he/she bets it and is a weak tight player then you are too far behind to want to call this small pot. I think you either see a set, two pair, or kings with a higher club as a kicker. So you are a either slight underdog or a big underdog if he bets.
Fold it. If he checks and a 4th club rivers then bet out and take it down. |
