Default AQs

Just a turn question I guess. My friend was sweating me for not betting the turn again for value. This table is a divine gift: all loose and passives with a few LAGs and a maniac.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 max, 9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
2 folds, MP1 calls, Hero raises, 1 fold, CO 3-bets, Button calls, SB calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, Hero caps, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, MP1 calls.

Flop: (21 SB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (13 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, MP1 checks, Hero checks, CO checks, Button checks.

River: (13 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, MP1 checks, Hero checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Final Pot: 13 BB

I like checking the turn. But it makes your line super obvious to an observant player. I just worry about CO raising me on the turn, and I would much rather like to see the river for only one bet if I could.

You have 12 good outs if you don't count your A, and it's probably worth at least a half an out, maybe the "full" 1.5. If everyone calls your river bet, then it's a bet for value with 12 outs. If one folds, you're going to have to call on your A outs to get value. You're not making everyone fold here, so the only reason to bet is if you think you'll get 3 or four callers. Conceivable? Sure, but it's pretty borderline. If checking is a mistake, it's a very slight one. If betting is a mistake, it's probably a little larger. I think I like the check unless you know everyone is along for the ride.

Thanx. I also thought that taking a free card here isn't so bad because no one will make a better hand if the straight or flush hits--my outs are not vulnerable.

I agree with betting the turn.

You had 15 outs to improve to either the nut flush, nut straight (apart from T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]) or AA, against 5 opponents.

So you had a big equity edge, and your turn bet would have been +EV.

I'm not big on capping AQs preflop, but there's nothing particularly wrong with that.

Bet the turn, and possibly the river if you think you can get everyone to fold.

then i'm assuming you didn't bet the turn because someone probably paired on the flop? don't you have equity against them then to bet again?

Right, that is what is at issue here. I think I had equity if they all called, but if one of the maniacs raises and the rest fold, it's not so nice. In any case, it wasn't obvious to me and that's why I posted it.
