The BB checkraised as the 2nd raiser meaning that he probably doesn't just have a big pocket pair/2 cards with a diamond or even a set, and knows that since he is out of position versus you can't reraise to buy a free card. For that reason his small checkraise has all the marks of a lure. Checking behind, since it is unlikely he was angling for a free card was the percentage play on the turn and would usually make for a smaller river bet if he bet in front.
