bottom set, fast flop action
hand I played recently on interpoker. Is this call A) clear cut B) Marginal C) Horrible? Basically just wondering if this call is profitable long term.
I had been watching table for about 5 min. - villain had been playing tight, not getting out of line but I never really saw him play a hand to showdown. My second hand at the table I was dealt AA, made standard $20 open, called by shortstack w/ 22 who flopped bottom set. We were both shortstacked and I bet enough to put him allin by turn, I reloaded to a full buyin (almost) and this hand immediately came up. hand edited for pertinent info. 6max Seat 3: villain (£490 in chips) Seat 5: hero(£479 in chips) kingking: posts small blind £2 D1ce: posts big blind £5 ----- HOLE CARDS ----- dealt to hero [4h 4d] utg: calls £5 villain: raises to £20 hero: calls £20 utg: calls £15 ----- FLOP ----- [Ad Ts 4s] UTG checks villain: bets £40 hero: raises to £105 villain: raises to £470 and is all-in hero???? |

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
Id prolly muck this against an unknown.
Conversely, if i feel like i can get opponent to muck, i have done this reraise all-in with AK or so quite often and gotten hands like top 2 and bottom set to muck. Against a tight straightforward player I muck this, this is one of the few times i would muck a set. I think it is pretty close. |

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
A) Call
Most players would not make the huge reraise with a set. They want you to hang around. Most likely AK or flush draw. |

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
Are you really thinking of folding this?

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
I call - big overbet probably means AsKs.

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
I guess I was playing a little out of my league if I was considering a fold here. I really thought that Aces or 10-10 was not a far-fetched possibility... He could put me on the AsKs or similar hand and want to take it down right there?? In retrospect my reasoning was flawed I believe, he would likely call and lead or checkraise a non-spade turn if he had a bigger set. I called.

Re: bottom set, fast flop action
I think you are right that you can't rule out AA/TT. But you also can't rule out a million other hands that you are destroying. You are well ahead of his hand range here and that is what is important.
