AK at $1500 WSOP event
Prior to this hand I had raised a few times and completely missed the flop and folded to flop bets/raises. Then this hand came up, still in level 1, blinds 25-25, I have around 1200:
I get AK utg and raise to 50, 5 folds..., CO calls, 2 folds, BB calls. 3 to the flop. FLOP: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] BB checks, I bet 125, CO thinks then raises to 250, BB folds, I call. Turn: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet 200, CO calls. River: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, he bets 375. I have 525 if I lose and 2350 if i win. I call. Discuss, then I will chime in with my reasoning. |

Re: AK at $1500 WSOP event
In my experience, thinking + minimum raise is rarely good news. I wonder if my experience is unique.

Looks like the miniraise lost alot of chips.
You are only beating a bluff here, villain probably has u on the ace. |

I vote with fnurt.
Your min raise was bait... your 125 token raise with A and two spade or str8 draw was week. Your caller was likely on a draw... and on the turn you may have been drawing dead. You either have to push the dude or fold to his raise. Am I wrong? |

Re: AK at $1500 WSOP event
I hate your turn bet. Lets think about the flop play your opponent made. He can have 1 of 3 types of hand, a draw, a worse A or a better made hand. If he has a draw he just got there and your betting into him? If he has a worse A he now hates his hand even more and quite often folds, if he has a better made hand while he hates that turn he generally will call your bet because its quite small in relation to the pot. I check the turn about 100% of the time here given this action. Many times he will bet the turn, and I'll call sometimes. I'll then check the river and fold if he bets since there is very little chance he raises the flop, bets the turn, and bets the river with a bluff or AQ and thats all you beat.

Re: AK at $1500 WSOP event
Just to be clear, the miniraise I mentioned was the villain's move on the flop. Our hero surely could have raised more preflop, but I confess I often skip right by that issue because it seems like half the comments on this forum are either "fold preflop" or "raise more preflop, like 83xBB"
