Default check raising, a discussion

I've recently tried moving up to 5/10 6 handed because I found I could crush the 3/6 game short handed. Wow is 5/10 ever different. if you're not up against TAGs, you're up against LAGs that have an impossible range of hands to read. One element that I rarely used in my 10 handed game is the check raise. I understand that the reason behind it is to gain free cards later on when I check a flop, and also to extract more money from my opponent. The question I have is how often I should be doing it, and how often I should do it on the flop vs the turn. I'm currently not check raising draws and over cards all that often, but I imagine this is also something I should incorporate. Any guidelines on how often I should attempt this ? I'm not really playing with any kind of plan as it stands.
