showing only one card in a showdown

in the home game i play in theres this one guy who likes to only show one card once you call his raise. like if he has ace 5 and ends up with a pair of aces he'll just show the ace. this gets annoying because if i have an ace too, i have to ask again for the other card. and sometimes, even if i can't beat what he has with the one card he shows, i want to see both his cards for information or simply out of curiosity - small compensation for paying him off.

anyway, its gotten really annoying because every time he does that i automatically ask to see the other card. he hasnt got the point. i know maybe im just being a pain, but its pet peeve of mine. i mentioned that maybe he should just consider showing both every time. i haven't pushed it, but in asking him to do this am i overstepping my bounds?

is it sort of like one of those situations where its a rule but its considered impolite to use it. sort of like in casinos where you have the right to see what people are calling river raises with, but its not really nice to do it. or is this more clear cut?

If he doesn't show both cards at a showdown, he forfeits the pot. He can turn one over then slowly turn the other over, though it is considered fairly rude if it isnt a friendly type game.
